Trains manufactured by Spanish firm Talgo might be introduced on a trial basis on the existing tracks on the Delhi-Mumbai route. It will run at speeds between 160 and 200 kmph and depending on the results of the trial, the railway ministry will consider their full-fledged introduction on other routes as well.
Moreover, the train making firm has offered the trial free of cost. A permission letter will issued to Talgo after getting the Railway Board’s approval for importing the rake to India.
The rake will be assembled in India though.
Talgo trains will not only reduce travel time but are cost efficient as well as they consume 30 per cent less energy thus cutting down on the power bill.
There will be no need for overhauling the tracks for the trial run. These trains are already functional in many places in Asia and the US.
