The Tet Lunar New Year from February 7 to 12 sent nearly 35,400 people to hospital for injuries from traffic crashes, fights and alcohol poisoning, according to the Ministry of Health.
Of nearly 30,000 people hospitalized after traffic crashes, 160 died. That compared to 233 traffic deaths during last year’s Tet holiday.
Meanwhile, brawls sent around 3,400 people to hospitals across the country. Ten of them died. There were 6,200 brawl-related patients and 15 deaths last year.
The health ministry also said hospitals admitted nearly 2,000 patients for rice wine poisoning.
