Iran to create first carpet village

Iran’s first carpet village will be established in Chaleshtar, a central district of Shahr-e Kord, the provincial capital of Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari, said the head of Carpet Department at the provincial Industries, Mines and Commerce Organization.

“The plan to create a carpet village has been approved in the province and we have presented it to Iran’s National Carpet Center for final endorsement,” Alireza Jeilan told IRNA on Sunday.The entire process of producing a carpet, from preparing the raw material to designing, weaving and showcasing, will take place in the village, he said.The rural district of Chaleshtar has for centuries been one of the oldest carpet weaving areas in the country, he added.”Carpets woven here have also been registered on the National Heritage List,” he concluded.
