Harping on its policy-centric approach for the past 90 years, the Communist Party of India (CPI) would until recently discourage personality cult. But with the entry of Kanhaiya Kumar, the Left party now decided to go the right way.
During the visit of the student leader to Hyderabad, CPI national secretary Dr K Narayana deployed himself to receive the JNUSU president, who is also a member of All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and escorted him to various meeting venues.
On Wednesday, when Kanhaiya was busy addressing AISF workers on the first floor of the CPI office, Dr Narayana, a Communist stalwart in Andhra Pradesh with more than 40 years of service in the party, got a car ready for him to take him to a nearby AISF office.
The scene repeated on Thursday.
With their fortunes dwindling, analysts said, Left parties have suddenly found a golden opportunity in Kanhaiya to resurrect their fate. They are desperate to grab it. Even if it means adopting hero-worship by modifying their 90-year-old belief.
