Hyderabad, March 26: Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has accused the TRS Government of implementing secret agenda of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of saffronisation of education.
Addressing a press conference at Assembly Media Point on Saturday, Shabbir Ali said that the recent incidents of violence in University of Hyderabad (UoH) and Osmania University (OU) were a clear proof that TRS Government was being remote controlled by RSS to target the students who are opposing casteism and communalism in educational institutions. He said BJP Government at the Centre and TRS Government in Telangana were jointly responsible for unleashing a reign of terror on students’ community, especially those belonging to Dalit, ST, BC and minority communities.
Shabbir Ali questioned the inaction of Cyberabad Police in arresting HCU Vice-Chancellor Appa Rao despite registering a case under SC/ST Atrocities Act. “How Appa Rao was allowed to enter the university despite the fact that he is facing a criminal case and enquiry of one-man judicial commission is pending against him?” he asked. He also objected to the indiscriminate arrest of young students of whom majority are aged between 19-23 years. He alleged that the UoH students were brutally beaten up and were shifted to different police stations in ambulance. Enroute, they were beaten up and were asked whether they could call Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. “This is nothing but revenge against students who challenged anti-Dalit approach of BJP and TRS Governments,” he said.
The Congress leader said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was allegedly insulted by some students of Osmania University during the statehood movement. “After becoming Chief Minister, KCR started targeting OU students and using police to take the revenge for the insult. The OU students were lathicharged on multiple occasions and in the recent incident, Congress MLA Sampath Kumar and other leaders were specifically targeted by the police,” he said.
Shabbir Ali said that the UoH students have waged a war against casteism in educational institutions and demanded action against those responsible for the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula. However, the BJP and TRS Governments have unleashed terror against the protesters by behaving in an inhuman manner. “The students were deprived of food, water, electricity and treated like criminals only to protect Appa Rao who is facing serious charges. The Union HRD Ministry should clarify as to how it allowed Appa Rao to continue on the post with one-man judicial commission’s enquiry pending against him,” he said.
Welcoming the intervention of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in the case, Shabbir Ali said that the Congress party would not remain a mute spectator to these developments. “Congress party will expose the communal agenda of BJP and TRS Governments. Both are secret allies and are functioning at the behest of RSS and Sangh Parivar,” he said while demanding that all cases registered against the student be withdrawn immediately. He said action should be taken against the policemen who tortured UoH and OU students. He said that the Congress party would launch a massive agitation to press for arrest and dismissal Appa Rao.
