Sounds strange, doesn’t it? We all want intelligent friends. But there are some good reasons why intelligent people have fewer friends when you think about it.
Firstly, Intelligent people have a problem connecting with other people because they see the world differently. They take a deeper look at the things around us that most people just wander by. They are more likely to engage in anti-social hobbies. I say “anti-social” meaning they are done alone, not a group activity.
Secondly, our schooling so rewards kids with high IQ that those kids have little incentive to develop high social/emotional/practical intelligence, with unfortunate results.
And thirdly, an interesting study I once read concluded that more intelligent individuals were actually less satisfied with life if they socialized with their friends more frequently. In other words, the smarter you are the less you like interacting with people – even your friends.
